#TravelWithJeanMilka : The Magnificent Roma and Vatican

Last time I promised you that I was going to blog about my trip to Europe. That was the first time I ever visited Europe. My family and I decided to use tour service for this trip. Much like we always do. Well, my family isn't exactly fluent in English and aren't used to making detailed international travel plans. Not to mention that we made a sudden decision to go on this trip, like a month before. Thus we had little time to prepare.

I want to point out to you all that in the first photo, although I look agitated, in truth I wasn't PMS-ing or angry at someone. I can assure you that. I was going to jump and have my picture taken, as I was mid-air that is; and this was snapped just seconds before I made the jump. At the end the jumping picture wasn't good enough I thought I'd just go with this one. Also, I kinda like it ^^

Rome was the first European city I visited during my trip there. After approximately 15 hours of flight, I had mix feelings about my trip. I was both exhausted and excited at the same time. The first place we stopped at was the infamous Romanian Colosseum. The Colosseum or Coliseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is an elliptical amphitheatre (an open-air venue used for entertainment, performances, and sports) in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. This is one of the largest amphitheatre ever built and is considered one of the greatest works of architecture and engineering. (source : Wikipedia)

One thing you need to know about me is that I have very little interest in historical literature and ancient buildings *have always failed history class*. You can actually stroll into the Colosseum if you want. They have a museum dedicated to Eros (Greek God of love) inside. We only have a few minutes and with the long queue on the ticket counter, I prefer to walk around and take as many photos as I can.

Around the Colosseum area, there are people dressed in Ancient Romanian Soldier's costumes. Bear in mind that if you want to take a photo with them, you should first ask how much will it cost you to that. Because these people will act like you can freely take photos with them, yet afterwards they will charge you a ridiculous amount of money for their so called "service".

You can also find Italian street snacks there. A trip to Italy would end up being a huge lackluster if you leave without indulging yourself in their heavenly Gelato. Italians have done something magical with their ice cream. There are so many flavors to choose, and all of them tastes really good. How many gelato did I taste? 3 large scoops, all in different flavors #Yummy ^^.

On that day we also visited Trevi Fountain. Trevi Fountain is a fountain in the Trevi district in Rome. It is the largest fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. People believe that if you successfully throw coins into the small pool of water inside the fountain, you will be able to revisit Rome again in future. Unfortunately, the fountain was under construction when I visited. It is expected to remain closed until October 2015. Within the areas surrounding Trevi Fountain, you will find dozens of small cafes selling Pizza and also Gelato.

After Trevi Fountain, the last place we visited was Vatican City. Vatican is not an actual city. It's a state with an area of approximately 44 hectares. Having said that, the Vatican is the smallest internationally recognized independent state in the world by both area and population.

I was so excited to visit Vatican. City. Not because I like the history behind it or its display of magnificent and awe inspiring structures. But because I am a big fan of Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown. Da Vinci Code is a mystery-detective novel with Vatican City as one of its many settings. If you are a fan of Dan Brown's novels, you will be able see for yourself the places, buildings and statues mentioned in The Da Vinci Code.

Vatican city is surrounded by magnificent, artistically designed structures and buildings. One of them is the St. Peter's Basilica. St. Peter's is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and remains one of the two largest churches in the world. Inside the church, you will find a lot statues and paintings which serves as a retelling of various Bible stories.
