Hello beauty lovers...
Somehow, I’ve managed to find the time to blog about my favorite beauty products of 2014. I’m always looking forward to (with great anticipation if I might add) other people’s take on the above topic; be it the articles they publish on their blogs or the YouTube videos they upload. Indulging yourself in other people’s “list of favorite items” is indeed a fun and insightful thing to do. To be honest with you, I’d usually end up sampling the products they feature. Now, in light of the fact that I really love to stick my nose in other people’s list of favorite items, I thought that coming up with my very own list of favorite items would pose quite a challenge. Now that it’s finished, I’d like to share with you my list of favorite beauty products of 2014. I hope you all like it... ^^
First things first, I want to talk about one of the most common albeit frightening facial skin problem: enlarged pores. As you all know, pores enlarge when they become clogged with dirt, oil or bacteria causing them to inflame. I got dozens of these sizable, spiteful pores scattered across my cheeks. Now thing is about enlarged pores is that (under normal circumstances that is) it’s extremely difficult to be rid of them. Since there’s no permanent way to shrink or minimize your pores, your best bet would be to employ a certain “miracle product” that could help you cloak these satanic critters and get you back on the smooth skin track.
Needless to say, pore minimizing products is a must for me. Of all the pore minimizing products I’ve sampled over the years, very few (in my not so humble opinion) possess all the wonderful features Benefit Professional’s has to offer. Benefit Professional’s pore minimizing primer miracle worker is the only pore minimizing product I’ve routinely employed in 2014. I always purchase several tubes of at once to make sure I have several reserves stored in my drawer. You can check out an exclusive review on the product, here.

Next up, let’s talk about foundations. I’m all about foundations. Without question, the right foundation is essential for a beautiful makeup application as it serves as the canvas for the rest of your makeup. I’m the kind of girl who’s more than willing to spend a staggering sum on foundations. What do you need for a flawless makeup finish? The answer is quite clear: a "good" foundation that suits your skin type.
My favorite high-end foundation is Estee Lauder’s Double Wear. It is, in my opinion one of the best long-lasting matte finish foundations. Not only does it help absorb oil, this particular product is known for its build-able coverage. This is the foundation I used for every special occasions.
What about foundations which you can pickup from your nearest drugstores? My choice of item for the year of 2014 is Revlon’s Colorstay for oily skin. Not only does it blends on smoothely and evenly, Revlon’s Colorstay meshes quite well with my oily skin. Depending on the room’s temperature and humidity, this foundation could last for about 2 – 4 hours. I’d usually apply extra coverage concealers to go with this particular foundation for daily use though.
Last year’s “Concealer of the Year” award goes to Maybelline’s Fit Me Concealer! Yup, it's the kind of product you can easily find in any drugstore. Now I’m pretty sure that most of you are quite familiar with Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Concealer. I’m quite fond of that product too. However, the reason why I love Fit Me Concealer better is because I can use it as spot and under eye concealers.
Next up, I really love. It has come to my utmost attention that I have developed a rather exorbitant level of fondness towards liquid foundations. Liquid foundations when fused with “the right” Setting Powder, are able to deliver a medium build-able coverage, resulting in a more radiant look. I’ve made several purchases of NYX’s Mineral Matte Setting Powder throughout 2014, regardless of the foundation I was using at that time. It makes my face less oily during the day, thus propelling me one step closer to achieving that flawless look us girls so desperately crave. Given the circumstances, I think it’s safe to say that we’re together know :)
Now let’s move on to Eye Shadow. As the saying goes, a good quality Eye Shadow is essential to finishing off your look. Therefore, I’m really picky when it comes to Eye Shadow. Regardless, choosing which Eye Shadow to go with is definitely one of the toughest calls I had to make whilst writing this article. I can’t even begin to choose. I’ve got like a wide array of pressed and cream Eye Shadow products carefully lined up in my drawers. Then again, I must say that I’m quite fond of my Naked 1,2,3 Palette, Too Faced Chocolate bar, Lorac Pro, well almost all of them. I tend to go with high-end products when it comes to Eye Shadow. I believe many of you are aware of the fact that the so called “wiggly” lines you draw using low end Eye Shadow Make Up aren't exactly that noticeable at first glance. Make no mistake though, I still purchase a handful of these drug-store Eye Shadow products every now and then for daily use. However, compared to the former, I will always prefer high end Eye Shadow products. For instance last year, I had a rather raunchy affair with two high end Eye Shadow products; Too Faced’s Natural Eye and Urban Decay’s Naked 3 Palette *review is here*. Both products are equally suitable for daily use and will glamorous occassions.

Now let’s move on to that one beauty product that I rarely pay much attention to; Mascara. My all time favorite is Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara, which is I’ve been using since before I started blogging. Back then I had yet undergo that pivotal transformation that turned me into the make-up hoarder I am today. Another note-worthy product of the same category is Fairy Drop’s Platinum Mascara. These two mascaras are packed with additional fiber that can make your lashes look longer and fuller.
Eyeliners, when correctly employed are capable of becoming total game-changers. If you plan on instantly altering or improving your looks, eye liners are indeed the way to go. Especially if you have small eyes like me. I’ve fallen head over heels for Benefit’s They're Real Push Up Liner from the first time I sampled them, you can check out my review here. Regretfully after 3 months, the substances kind of dried up, making it rather difficult to scoop out and apply. I later resorted to using Stila’s All Day Liquid Liner, which turned out to be a such a dear and is easier to apply. These two eyeliners are the undisputed champs in terms of coloring, as they provide darker than dark palletes.
I rarely decorate my water lines. I think it's far too overwhelming for everyday use. I feel pretty much the same way about black eyeshadow. Whenever I attend a special event, I tend to go for a more “grounded” – “less imposing” look, thereby I tend to wear my makeup the way I do on a daily basis. Instead of black I prefer to swipe nude or champagne colors on my water lines to help volumize my lashes, thus making my eyes look bigger. My favorite eyeliner for water line is Rimmel’s Scandal Eyes in nude. I also like Etude’s House Play 101 Pencil number 6. I regretfully lost mine some time ago -- that's why it is not include on the picture bellow.
If you’ve followed me from the very beginning, or if you’ve ever viewed my earliest tutorials, I’m pretty sure you’ve noticed that I really suck at grooming my eye brows. I just leave it the way it is. About 4 months after I started blogging, I got my brows waxed at one of Benefit Brow’s events. I’m not trying to exaggerate here, but I sincerely believe that that was indeed one of my turning points in life. I then began to understand the importance of having your eye brows “polished” every now and then. My favorite combination for brow products are Etude House Drawing Eye Brow and Benefit Gimme Brow.
Eye Primers, do you really need one? Well, much depends on the individual I’d say. I for once tend to ignore Eye Primers and hardly consider these products as situational items. If you feel like you need to try one, go ahead give it a go. Truth be told it’s a unqiue modifier and does make a different. My favorite eye primer of 2014 is Mac’s Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. It adds more concentrated colored pigments onto my Eye Shadows.
Bronzer and Highlighter, I think these two product are also on top of my favorite items list -- Benefit Hoola Bronzer and The Balm Mary Lou Manizer. Hoola is perfectly suitable for most skin tones. It can be used for contouring or layer above the bronzer. There’s only one down side to this product, it doesn't last that long on my skin, probably cause of my oily skin type. For highlighter, I’d say The Balm’s Mary Lou Manizer works just fine. It’s good for highlighting your cheekbones, that slight indentation that stretches down the your nasal bridge, your cupid's bow, and also your inner corners.
What’s not to like ‘bout Nars Orgasm? From what I’ve heard, tons of beauty bloggers and makeup addicts really loves it. At first, I thought throwing Nars Orgasm, which have shimmer on it, into the equation will only end up making me look like a disco ball, to my surprise it actually adds natural coral tones with tiny hints of glitter to my cheek, not like it shows on the pan. I got NARS Orgasm in their limited Narsissist Cheek Kit Palette, this is the palette I safely tucked in my makeup pouch alongside my Bronzer: Laguna, and Highlighter: Devotee.
Another coral blush that I love is Benefit’s Coralista. I prefer coral or peach more than pink blush. The only pink blush that caught my eye back in 2014 was L'Oreal Paris’ Lucent Magique Blush in Fuchsia Flush. Be warned though; it's one of the most pigmented fuchsia blush I’ve ever stumbled upon. Be sure to tap away the extra powder before you let the brush touch your cheek.
The last category is lipstick. I don't like lip gloss or glossy lipstick, I prefer matte lipsticks that moisturizes and soothes my lips whilst depositing vivid, dramatic lively colors onto the lips. My favorite matt lipstick is NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream. I already own most of the bright shades. Will be sure to blog about them later on.
High end lipsticks. At first I thought I wouldn’t be needing any of them *hahaha...* Ended up falling heads over heels in love with YSL’s lip coloring products. Love the texture, the scent, and the fact that most of their products are incredibly moist. YSL’s Baby Doll Kiss and Blush, the two core lip coloring products they launched last year is matte finish but doesn't makes your lips look parched or dry. The two shades I love best are -- Fuchsia Desinvolte and Rouge Effrontee.
One other YSL Lipstick I love is Rouge Pur Couture in shade 52 Rosy Coral. This is the lipstick that Jun Ji Hyun "Cheon Song Yi" regularly wore in her infamous K-Drama; "My Love From Another Star". The colorful shade this lipstick bears is a dominant mixture of neon coral and pink that vividly adorns your lips. This particular color could easily brighten up my looks.
Honorable Mentions: Misuto Makeup luggage! I got this beautifully designed semi-carry make-up luggage from Head To Toe Asia. I only store a portion of my make up in it though. In exchange, I have an Ikea Alex 9 Drawers to stash most of my collection. If you happen to follow me on Instagram, you might notice that I tend to model for photoshoots some time. This is what I use to carry my makeup.
My Mitsuto makeup case comes in 2 stacks of fordable drawers that are conveniently positioned on the left and right compartments of the luggage. The overall dimension of the luggage itself is neither too big nor too small. Just enough for me to store a portion of my makeup (the ones I really need). With 2 locks etched on top of the case (you can only open it with a special key), and on top of that the reinforced durable coating, this case will most likely keep your make-up collection safe from harms way. It is indeed one of the best semi-carry mobile storage a makeup artist can buy.
The price is quite affordable compared to other makeup cases that are usually displayed at the mall. For more details you can contact Head To toe Asia, they sell tons of different makeup cases.
That is all for my review... If you want to know my skin care favorites, you can check my skin care routine here.
