Hello Makeup Junkie...
I know
it's probably kind of late for me to review this palette from Urban Decay. I have
always loved everything related to eyeshadow or eye makeup. Regretfully it's becoming
immensely difficult for me to regularly review my collection. If some girls are
head over heels for lip products, I have a serious addiction for eyeshadow hahaha...
I’ve
actually posted this palette on my Instagram, soon after I first laid my hands on it. Before that, I didn’t
actually follow the trend of Urban Decay Vice Palette. Vice Palette is a
limited edition palette from Urban Decay, and by the time I knew about the second
edition of Vice Palette, it had sold out everywhere. Furthermore, when Vice 3
came out, I didn't find the colors and packaging appealing enough so I decided
to pass on it.
When Urban Decay Vice 4 came out, I instantly
knew that I needed to get my hands on it. First things first, the packaging was
beyond gorgeous. Urban Decay Vice 4’s packaging is, in my opinion, the best
packaging from their Vice Palette collection thus far.
The container is made out of a black-hard-plastic case with a touch of intricate metallic decorations on top of its cover. The cover sports a rather daring combination of metallic purple, fuschia, yellow, blue and green color decorations. The metallic cover is separately set on the foreground, leaving some space between it and the black base below it, making it look that it’s slightly hovering on top of the case. This is the first time I stumbled upon a 3D design on makeup packaging. Great job Urban Decay ^^

To be
frank with you, the Size of this Urban Decay Vice Palette’s case is quite huge.
It's slightly bigger than my own palm. There is a huge mirror plastered on the
back of the top lid and you can turn the lid up to 150º. You can
place this palette on the table and use the mirror comfortably to better observe
yourself when you’re applying makeup. Because the size of this palette is quite
huge, it's not a palette you can easily bring during your travels. In addition,
I don't think the color it showcases could pass as the kind of everyday color
girls usually wear.
Urban
Decay Vice 4 comes with a double edged brush. One of them is a stiff shadow
brush which you can use to apply shimmery shadow whereas the other is a medium
sized blending brush. The brush is quite nice for applying the eyeshadows from
this palette. The size of the eyeshadow brush is not too big so you can use it
to pick up the eyeshadow and apply them on specific parts of your eyelid with
great ease. The blending brush is also not too fluffy so it's easy to control,
contain and focus the eyeshadow’s exposure just around the targeted area. The
brush also comes with a pouch that is as the same size as the palette.
In
addition to the bright eyeshadows that are always included in Urban Decay Vice
Palette, they also always provide some neutrals to go with the bright colours.
Urban Decay Vice 4 has got a good selection of bright and neutrals eyeshadows along
with other shimmery and matte eyeshadows. This pallete allows you to come up
with neutral, everyday look along with other exciting, pop of color looks.
Apart
from the the packaging, I think Urban Decay Vice has improved much in terms of
color selection. They now have more matte eyeshadows to go with the
shimmery/glittery eyeshadows. But I am slightly disappointed because there are
4 nude/champagne eyeshadows but none of them is shimmery enough for the inner
corner. The color Bones and Frames are almost alike and does not show off so
well on my skin tone.

Urban Decay Vice 4 Swatches
Bones : Satin nude beige with cool undertone. It has pearl sheen
and blends easily.
Grip : Grey taupe with iridescent micro glitters. The glitters
fades away 2 hours after you apply them.
Dead Beat : Semi-black shadow with iridescent micro glitters will most
likely result in a frost finish. I like it because it's not too dark and is easy
to blend without causing smokey eye effects.
Beat Down : Dark purple shadow with pearly sheen. It's shimmery but
without any chunky glitters.
Pandemonium : It's plum purple with a hint of pink sparkle on it. It
sports warm undertones and appears to be slightly brownish.
Framed : A very light peach tone with matte finish and warm
undertone. I prefer this one as the base color instead of Bones for all over
the lid. It's even out of my lid tone.
Fast Ball : This is one of my favorite colors. It's metallic peachy
pink with pearl on it. It looks better and pigmented with eye primer.
1985 : It's a fuschia shadow with micro glitters. It's satin
finish and has a cool undertone.
Underhand : It's a burgundy shadow which is a perfect combination
between plum and brown color. It's a pearl finish without any glitters on it.
Harlot : Light lavender purple with frost finish. This is a very
good color for popping a lavender makeup look.
Discreet : It's a very pale lavender grey with matte finish and more
to the cool tone shade.
Grasshopper : It's a bright jade green with metallic finish. The green
shade is so perfect, not too dark but also not too light.
C-Note : Light olive green with metallic sheen and gold sparkle.
Artic : Medium turquoise shadow that have more blue tone in it. It
has metallic finish and you can easily pull it off with or without an eye
primer.
Roberry : It's a taupe brown with slightly cool undertone.
Gunmetal is the best word to describe this color. Furthermore, it has
metallic finish.
Bitter : Orange brown with red tone and matte finish. The red is
far too promoinent to stand alone as a transition color but I like to layer it
with whichever transition color I feel like using to further define my
crease.
Flame : Coral orange with gold glitters on it. This is also one of
my favorite since it’s not like any other gold or orange shadow I have ever seen.
The gold glitters make this eyeshadow looks so bright and shimmery.
Low : Medium dark brown with a chunks of silver glitters.
Crowbar : Dark olive green with a lot of large gold glitter. It's
quite hard to blend and I notice quite a lot of fall out.
Delete : It's a dark saddle brown with matte finish. It's reddish,
bendable and very smooth.
Overall Review
Even
though 50% of the color on this palette is bright and not-an-everyday-eyeshadow,
I still feel like it's worth the money. I bought mine for about IDR 900.000
(original price is 60 USD and it's currently sale for just 39 USD). The
mix between the bright colors and the neutrals make this palette wearable.
You'll still need some additional colors such as a good medium brown for
transition color and a champagne color with frost finish for the inner corner.
It would be better if Urban Decay replace some of the 4 nude/light colour
(Bones, Grip, Framed, and Discreet) that is all for the eyelid area, for a
transition color or maybe bright reddish eyeshadow.
Most of
the color from this palette range from frost to metallic finish but I didn't
really have a problem with it falling out except for the Crowbar. The
pigmentation is great, it's bendable, and not powdery. Some of the colors needs
eye primers such as Fast Ball, Harlot, and C-Note to work but basically,
they're all beautiful colors. If I am working with bright eyeshadows for a
wearable makeup look, this is the palette I would like to use.
